Lunaleonis| Illusion in the virtual world, a return to sensuality in technology

Luna is a sought-after NFT artist. In addition to it, she is a leading industrial designer. As a student, she already won a gold medal in the national collegiate design Olympiad. Her designs and illustrations have been exhibited at major exhibitions worldwide, including Dutch Design Week, Dubai Design Week, Metacon Dubai and WIDD, etc.

Her imagination of constructing unknown objects is uniquely magical. The collectability and artistry of her work has attracted many collectors, including veteran collectors such as Pak, DarrenSRS and Cozomo de’ Medici. Luna’s work is exhibited and traded on major nft platforms such as Foundation, Superare and Open sea.

Thanks to her background of toy and game design, she was able to add more splendid narratives relevant to the fantasy world to her artworks. From her own introduction, it can be found out that her inspiration came from the intuition and pure feeling dating back to her childhood. She continuously explores the possibilities of color and shapes, and is keen to give priority to them in her later works. Just like many other contemporary artists, she admits that she was inspired by Picasso. Her own artistic language initiatives to evolve to evolve.Through the juxtaposition and dislocation of shapes and the blending of different colors, she created the emotional spectrum of particular narrative.

In a unified mythological narrative context that returns to the mystical call of primordial memory, she records a stop-motion slice of each moment that carries the story and the memory. Luna’s interpretation of her creation manifests this well: “I drew whimsy and magic.”

In the alienation of the human being accelerated by technology, Luna overcomes this limitation very well in her own work.

Luna’s works themselves serve as an excellent footnote for a grand illusion and fantasy in the metaverse world. The return of humanity remains behind the algorithm where the virtual is carried by the primordial fantasy and the memory of mysticism will be reborn in an innovative form. The deep symbiosis between human and computer algorithms lies behind the extended perception.

The SHE collection is Luna’s representation. Her interpretation focus on the magical and powerful energy of female. In her work, the protagonist’s eyelashes are lowered and she gazes down. This gesture of sinking downwards represents the energy of the feminine earth. As the Buddhist verse says: Peaceful and immovable as the earth. In “Azedeh”, the woman cutting her hair is ready to change. This is an act that has turned into a symbol of freedom. “Mother Moom”, the artwork showing 2 females, is the most personal piece she minted so far, showing Luna’s relationship with her mom.

In Luna’s art, the maternity soul is endowed with superhuman strength. The spiritual side of the feminine rheology achieves rebirth, regeneration, and immortality via pain and death, sacrifice, and the extinction of body and soul, as discussed by authors Joseph Campbell and Erich Neumann in their writings. This transformation may only take place if the object being transformed is entirely submerged in the feminine principle; in other words, death must be returned to the Mother Vessel, whether it be the ground, water, the underworld, an urn, a coffin, a cave, a mountain, a boat, or a voodoo basin. A few ship symbols are combined. To wander through Luna’s creations is to enter the realm of the subconsciousness and meander calmly through the caves of the night. The connotations of the elements she paints and the shapes of the colours she chooses point to a certain trance-like realization. Such an idea of creation is also reflected in her other works.

Reina Muerta is also one of Luna’s iconic works showing the direction of interest she is concentrating on, which is part of the Legends Of Wonderland series. Her expression fits the purpose of the Mexican Day of the Dead. As the description of her work says, what is dead is never truly gone… In Aztec mythology, the dead undergo a long voyage before reaching the Mictlán, a zone of the dead, where the boundaries between life and death unfold and blur. As Octavio Paz, the famous Mexican author and Nobel Prize winner in literature, said, “Death shows the highest meaning of life, the opposite of life and the complement of life.”

Such an idea originated in the philosophy of the ancient Indians, who celebrated the completion of the life cycle with joy and welcomed the reunion of the living with the dead. In the choice of elements for Luna’s creation, common elements for this festival are used, for example, altars, candy, wine and sugar skulls. The spirits and memories of the loved ones of the deceased are reflected in the lighthearted leaps of color.

This series of works has been recognized by a large number of collectors for the way it is returning to cultural humanism with the representativeness of the artistic language.
It is worth pointing out that in the context of Luna’s self-created fantasy world, each character has its own fascination. Each sole image also allows the collectors to gain an exclusive collecting experience.

In the artist’s description of Cerulean Haze, she writes:

“Dream.

Let your eyes sparkle in the dark mist of life.

Let your heart lead you through the cold rhythm of time.

In dreams you can move the biggest mountains,

and thread the bluest haze.

Once you know how that feels,

you’ll never settle,

you’ll thrive.

Chimere, queen of dreams in Luna’s Wonderland.”

Her distinctive tender, sensual and poetic painting language is consistent with the atmosphere of her works. In her collaborative projects with other artists or institutions, she also retains the representative temperament of her work.

The healing nature in poetry is also one of the cores of Luna Wonderland’s narrative. The soft wind lingers in the artworks. Melancholia is the latest work minted by artist @lunaleonis in August 2022 in collaboration with @_isabelarts. The artist has paired this co-mint with a small poem for this new project.

“How many sunrises would you trade

For everything to be alright?

The wind is tearing at your skin.

So, plant your feet and hold on tight

To all the things that made you laugh,

When heartbeats didn’t hurt,

And all the times you pulled yourself

Up from the dark and dirt.

There’s no such thing as endless pain;

No sacrifices to be made.

The wind will cease and you will rest

And you will find your way again.”

Leonora Carrington, a surrealist female artists who have recently become popular stated in Milk of Dream that, “In a magical world, I keep reconstructing life through the prism of my imagination.” Compared to the marginalization of women artists in the surrealist tendency of Carrington’s time in the last century, it is apparent that the current online space is an excellent arena to build new fantasy with less boundary. The flow of a purely spiritualized consciousness is conveyed in light and color, growing in a new symbolic language in a pantheon of illusion.

The theoretician Silvia Fedrici has claimed, “The world of reenchantment blends indigenous traditions with personal mythology.”

Luna’s work is an excellent corroboration of this thesis. She looks back at the memories of past civilizations and picks them up in the context of the era of metaverse, while creating a new fantasy universe shaped in the fluid space of the self.
